Martien  Coppens was one of the most prolific photographers of his time and with his extensive oeuvre, consisting of portraits, landscape photos, documentary work and picture series, contributed greatly to our image of Netherlands and Brabant in particular-from the 1930s to the 1970s. He owes his fame above all to the exceptionally large amount of photo books he to his name. As an active member of various associations, as critical as exhibition maker and author, he has contributed to both the recognition of photography as an art form as to the position of the professional photographer in Netherlands.
