Beaton, Cecil - British Photographers
Cecil Walter Hardy Beaton CBE (London, 14 January 1904 - Broad Chalke, Wiltshire, 18 January 1980) was an English photographer, costume designer and art director. He is best known for his elegant portrait photographs of prominent figures and his work for fashion and society magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair. During the Second World War he was active for the British government as a war photographer in Great Britain, the Middle East and Asia.
Apart from being a photographer, he was also art director and costume designer for stage and film; he received an Oscar and a Tony Award several times for his work.
