In this monograph, the idiosyncratic photographic oeuvre of the Hague artist, photographer and poet Gerard Fieret is fascinatingly related to a traumatic youth and life as 'bohemian'. In the sixties and seventies Fieret acquired a reputation with erotic nude photos of women and tormented self-portraits. The black-and-white photos were heavily manipulated in the dark room into graphic plates with their own unique beauty. With skillful pen, author Frans van Burkom describes the extent to which his photographs of nude women pose from feelings of separation anxiety. Fieret is portrayed as an outsider in the photography world; an 'egomaniac' who systematically denied all external influences. Van Burkom shows that the poses of the nude models and the raw way of printing can not be seen separately from nude photographs of contemporary Sanne Sannes and the painter Breitner. The text is well illustrated; the image section contains approximately 100 full-page photos. In the back a comprehensive bibliography and a translation in English.
