Lamsweerde, Inez Van / Matadin, Vinoodh - Photographs: Pitti Imagine Discovery (New in plastic!)

€ 19,95

Inez van Lamsweerde, who has been working with Vinoodh Matadin – her life partner – for years, is one of the most radical photographers in the fields of contemporary art and fashion. Her two areas of interest interweave mysteriously and continuously without any confusion or interference. Inez van Lamsweerde can be considered one of the few artists who puts digital technology (she was one of the first to utilize it) at the service of content, letting it go in the structure of the image.

For the artist, digital manipulations are more visual anthropology than alterations with morphing. Her photographs assume the new frontiers of ethics along with the violence of the media that feature stereotyped images of the concepts of male, female, sex, beauty and innocence. This attitude and her work on pictures of the body that are always glossy and restless earned her the invitation in 1995 from Jean Clair to participate in the Biennial of Venice dedicated to Alterità e identità.

In 2001 artist was showing 130 photographs, from L’Ecole Cantonale d’art de Lausanne, the Groninger Museum, and the Matthew Marks Gallery in New York (which was also involved in the organization of the show) at the Stazione Leopolda show. On this occasion, Pitti Immagine discovery documented the artist’s work with some important apertures on her extraordinary fashion photographs (she has worked with the major fashion magazines and contributes to V magazine on a continuous basis) and her advertising campaigns (the most recent are Giorgio Armani Cosmetics and Balenciaga in 2000, and Gucci in 2001).
