The photos were taken by Steven Meisel, and in addition to Madonna, Vanilla Ice, Naomi Campbell and Isabella Rossellini, among others, appear in the book.
The book was released in the fall of 1992, simultaneously with Madonna's album Erotica.
Despite its high retail price, it sold out within hours of its release.
