Most of these portraits date from 1990 to 1993, except for a few that I did recently. the list is neither exhaustive nor exclusive. There are artists who are friends, others whom I have only known for an hour, the time to paint a portrait. There are also friends of friends, and orders for magazines. And then there are those who have not made it, for lack of time or out of sheer laziness. When I started doing artist portraits in the late 1970s, almost everyone was accessible. (...) In the eighties, the art world became very different. (...) I have made it a rule to stop when someone says no to me three times. All the portraits presented here are those of artists I admire. I hope that' they will know how to reflect this idealized gaze. "David Seidner
