Edward Weston (1886–1958) has long been one of the most highly traded American photographers on the art market. Only a few weeks ago one of his photographic icons - Nautilus, the razor-sharp, crystal-clear underside of a seashell - crossed the magical million dollar threshold at auction. Weston, already a legend during his lifetime, shaped the style of all subsequent generations of photographers like no other. At the beginning of the 20s he broke with the pictorialism of its beginnings and became a leading advocate of »straight photography«, which was soon to conquer modern print media. In addition to cool and at the same time captivatingly sensual material shots - fruits, stones, sand dunes - his nudes in particular have become modern classics. Towards the end of his life, Weston put together a selection of his nudes for a book publication, but could not find a publisher. The maquette with 26 gelatin silver prints is now in the possession of the Getty Museum, which has now decided to finally publish Edward Weston's Book of Nudes for the first time.
